Piano Types
Upright, Baby Grand & Grand Piano Moving
Every piano type requires a different crew size, different technique, and different equipment. We move uprights, baby grands, and full grands across Norfolk County and Ontario. We know the difference before we show up.
Upright Piano
2 MoversUprights are the most straightforward piano move. Two movers can handle most jobs without disassembly. They still require proper piano moving equipment, blankets, a piano board, and controlled technique, especially on stairs and narrow hallways.
Also handles chest height uprights. Confirm your piano dimensions when you book.
Baby Grand Piano
2–5 MoversBaby grand piano moving requires more knowledge and more crew. Legs, pedals, and the top must come off before the move and the process varies by brand and model. Some older models have legs locked in rather than bolted, requiring small consistent taps with a rubber mallet to release. Bolt reassembly is a delicate step as re-threading the hole is easy to do if rushed and can cause minor damage.
Full Grand Piano
3–5 MoversFull grand piano moving is the most demanding job we do. Heavier, taller, and with a higher center of gravity than uprights, full grands require a dedicated crew member balancing the piano at all times. The piano is placed on the board sideways and requires constant control through every turn and staircase.
Equipment
Equipment Used for Piano Moving
Every item on this list is on our truck for every piano job. All of it. This is what separates a piano move done right from one that causes damage.
Toolbox & Rubber Mallet
Disassembly
Used to disconnect legs, pedals, and any parts that need to come off before the move. On older models, the rubber mallet delivers small consistent taps to release legs that are locked in rather than bolted.
Cotton Blanket
Finish Protection
The softest layer and the first thing that touches the piano. Goes directly against the finish to prevent any scratches before anything else is applied. Most DIY moves skip this step entirely.
Heavy Moving Blanket
Wall & Dent Protection
Goes over the cotton blanket to protect walls, doorframes, and stairwells during transit. Also prevents dents to the piano body when moving through tight spaces.
Ceram Wrap
Waterproofing
Applied over the blankets before the piano is placed on the board. Waterproofs the instrument during outdoor transit, protecting against rain, humidity, and temperature changes between locations.
Piano Board
Transport Platform
A dedicated board with handles for pulling and pushing up and down stairs. Has slits built into the wood specifically for ratchet straps to pass through and secure the piano to the board safely.
Ratchet Straps
Securing
Thread through the slits in the piano board and connect the piano securely so it cannot shift during movement. Used both on the board during stair work and inside the truck during transit.
Rollers
Flat Ground Movement
Used for smooth, controlled movement on flat ground. Eliminates the need to lift and carry the piano across level floors, reducing strain on the crew and risk of uncontrolled movement.
Hydraulic Dolly
Heavy Lift Situations
Brought for unique situations where standard equipment is not sufficient. Used when access is extremely tight, the piano is exceptionally heavy, or stairs require a different approach than the piano board allows.

Our Process
The Piano Moving Process
Every piano move follows the same disciplined process. Nothing is skipped, nothing is improvised. Drive through it below.
Arrival
Prep the Home
Before anything moves, we prep. Doors come off where needed, railings and floors are protected, and tools and equipment are brought in and staged. Your home gets the same protection as your piano.
Wrapping
Wrap the Piano
The cotton blanket goes on first, directly against the finish. The heavy moving blanket goes over top to protect the piano body and any walls or doorframes it passes through. Ceram wrap is applied last to waterproof the instrument before it goes outside.
Disassembly
Remove Legs, Pedals & Top
For baby grands and full grands, legs, pedals, and the top must come off before the move. The process varies by brand and model. On older models, legs are locked in rather than bolted and require small consistent taps with a rubber mallet to release safely. Bolt reassembly at the destination is done carefully as re-threading the hole is a common mistake if rushed.
Securing
Onto the Piano Board
The wrapped piano is placed onto the piano board. Ratchet straps are threaded through the slits in the board and secured tightly. For full grands, the piano goes on sideways and at least one crew member is dedicated to balancing it at all times due to its higher center of gravity.
Movement
Navigate Stairs & Hallways
The piano board handles the stairs with handles that allow the crew to pull and push with full control. Rollers take over on flat ground for smooth, controlled movement through hallways and rooms. The hydraulic dolly is used in unique situations where standard equipment is not sufficient.
Loading
Load & Secure in the Truck
The piano is loaded into the truck and ratcheted down. The same disciplined loading process applies whether it is a local move across Simcoe or a long distance move to Hamilton. Nothing shifts in transit.
Delivery
Prep the Drop-Off Location
On arrival, the destination is prepped the same way as the pickup location. Doors come off if needed, floors are protected, and tight access points are covered. The piano does not move until the path is ready.
Completion
Unload, Reassemble & Place
The piano is unloaded, unwrapped, and placed exactly where you want it. Legs, pedals, and any removed parts are reassembled carefully. Once the piano is in position, we clean up any mess the move caused and confirm the job is complete with you before we leave.

Why It Matters
Why Hire a Professional Piano Mover
Pianos are heavy, fragile, and unforgiving of mistakes. The wrong technique, missing equipment, or an undersized crew is how finishes get scratched, bolts get stripped, and people get hurt. We bring the right crew, the right equipment, and the experience to back it up.
