Upright, Baby Grand & Grand Piano Moving in Brantford
Every piano type requires a different crew size, different technique, and different equipment. We move uprights, baby grands, and full grands across Brantford. We know the difference before we show up.
Upright Piano
2 MoversUprights are the most straightforward piano move. Two movers can handle most jobs without disassembly. That said, a lot of houses in Brantford were built decades ago and the doorways and staircases reflect that. Proper equipment, controlled technique, and the right crew size matter on every job regardless of piano type.
Also handles chest height uprights. Confirm your piano dimensions when you book.
Baby Grand Piano
2–5 MoversBaby grand piano moves require disassembly before anything moves. Legs, pedals, and the top come off first, and the process is different for each brand and model. Some older models have legs locked in rather than bolted, which means small consistent taps with a rubber mallet to get them off safely. Putting the bolts back is a step most crews rush, and re-threading the bolt hole is an easy mistake that causes damage.
Full Grand Piano
3–5 MoversFull grand piano moving is the most demanding job we do. Heavier, taller, and with a higher center of gravity than uprights, full grands need at least one crew member dedicated to balancing the piano at all times. The piano goes on the board sideways. Every turn, every staircase, and every tight doorframe gets planned before it happens.
Equipment
Equipment on Every Brantford Piano Move
Every item on this list is on our truck for every piano job in Brantford. All of it. This is what separates a piano move done right from one that causes damage.
Toolbox & Rubber Mallet
Disassembly
Used to disconnect legs, pedals, and any parts that need to come off before the move. On older models, the rubber mallet delivers small consistent taps to release legs that are locked in rather than bolted.
Cotton Blanket
Finish Protection
The softest layer and the first thing that touches the piano. Goes directly against the finish to prevent scratches before anything else is applied. Most people trying to move a piano themselves skip this entirely.
Heavy Moving Blanket
Wall & Dent Protection
Goes over the cotton blanket to protect walls, doorframes, and stairwells during the move. Also protects the piano body from dents when going through tight spaces. Especially important in older Brantford homes where original trim is not easy to replace.
Ceram Wrap
Waterproofing
Applied over the blankets before the piano goes on the board. Keeps the instrument waterproof during outdoor transit and protects against rain and temperature changes between pickup and drop off.
Piano Board
Transport Platform
A dedicated board with handles for pulling and pushing up and down stairs. Has slits built into the wood specifically so ratchet straps can pass through and hold the piano to the board safely.
Ratchet Straps
Securing
Thread through the slits in the piano board and lock the piano in place so it cannot shift. Used on the board during stair work and inside the truck during the drive to your Brantford drop off location.
Rollers
Flat Ground Movement
Used for smooth, controlled movement on flat ground. Takes away the need to lift and carry the piano across level floors, which reduces strain on the crew and the risk of something going wrong.
Hydraulic Dolly
Heavy Lift Situations
Brought for jobs where standard equipment is not enough. Used when access is very tight, the piano is unusually heavy, or the staircase layout needs a different approach than the piano board allows.

Our Process
How a Brantford Piano Move Works
Every piano move follows the same process. Nothing is skipped, nothing is improvised. Drive through it below.
Arrival
Prep the Home
Before anything moves, we prep. Doors come off where needed, railings and floors are protected, and all tools and equipment are brought in and staged. Older homes in Brantford with original hardwood floors and vintage trim get the same protection as the piano itself.
Wrapping
Wrap the Piano
The cotton blanket goes on first, directly against the finish. The heavy moving blanket goes over top to protect the piano body and any walls or doorframes it passes through. Ceram wrap is applied last to waterproof the instrument before it goes outside.
Disassembly
Remove Legs, Pedals & Top
For baby grands and full grands, legs, pedals, and the top come off before the move. The process is different for each brand and model. On older models, legs are locked in rather than bolted and need small consistent taps with a rubber mallet to release safely. Putting the bolts back at the destination is done carefully because re-threading the hole is a common mistake when crews rush.
Securing
Onto the Piano Board
The wrapped piano is placed onto the piano board. Ratchet straps are threaded through the slits in the board and secured tightly. For full grands, the piano goes on sideways and at least one crew member stays on balance duty at all times because of the higher center of gravity.
Movement
Navigate Stairs & Hallways
The piano board handles stairs with handles that let the crew pull and push with full control. Rollers take over on flat ground for smooth movement through hallways and rooms. The hydraulic dolly comes out when standard equipment is not the right call for the access situation.
Loading
Load & Secure in the Truck
The piano is loaded into the truck and ratcheted down before the truck moves. The same loading process applies whether it is a local move within Brantford or the drive back to Simcoe. Nothing shifts in transit.
Delivery
Prep the Drop-Off Location
On arrival at the drop off address, the destination gets the same prep as the pickup. Doors come off if needed, floors are protected, and tight access points are covered. The piano does not move until the path is ready.
Completion
Unload, Reassemble & Place
The piano is unloaded, unwrapped, and placed exactly where you want it. Legs, pedals, and any removed parts are reassembled carefully. Once the piano is in position we clean up any mess the move caused and confirm the job is complete with you before we leave.
Why It Matters
Why Hire a Professional Piano Mover in Brantford
Pianos are heavy, fragile, and unforgiving of mistakes. The wrong technique, a missing piece of equipment, or a crew that is too small is how finishes get scratched, bolts get stripped, and people get hurt. A lot of homes in Brantford are older, with narrow stairwells and original hardwood floors that were never designed for a 400 pound instrument. Our crew trains consistently for the physical demands of this work. Every job gets the right crew size, the right equipment, and a team that moves at a controlled pace all day without cutting corners on the last job of the shift. That is what 350 plus moves and a 5.0 rating is built on.
